Meeting_Abraham_Melchizedek_MBA_Rennes_73.47.1Plenty of Christians argue that tithing should continue for New Testament Believers on the basis that Abraham tithed, which was before the Law of Moses.

There are a number of obvious problems with this argument, of which I will mention a few.

The first and most obvious reason why Abraham’s tithe is an ineffective example is because, even though this occurred before the Law, Abraham did NOT receive the promises.  Indeed he was blessed by God for his faith and God proclaimed His promises to Abraham, but Abraham did NOT receive these promises in his lifetime.

“…these (the faithful people of old – including Abraham) all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.” Hebrews 11:12-16

It shouldn’t be necessary to point out this truth, but the fact of the matter is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His New Covenant trumps EVERY OTHER COVENANT BEFORE IT!  Yes the blessings that are realized in Christ are the fulfillment of the promises made to Abraham, but as Christians we do not now receive these promises by keeping either the Law of Moses or by trying to mimic some pre-Law example, even of Abraham.  Faith in Christ Jesus is the ONLY requisite for receiving ALL the promises of God!  Tithing benefits you NOTHING AT ALL!

That is not to say that you cannot tithe (i.e. give 10% of) a portion of your income for some kind of Gospel work, but the Bible does not teach or require any such legalism.  In fact, it does not even suggest such as a recommendation. God shows favor only to those who Believe in Him through Jesus Christ and ONLY on the basis of Christ’s unmerited grace (by way of the cross).  No one is blessed because they keep a ritual like tithing.

2014-06-09 16.08.26Hi, welcome to the new website!  Over the course of the past several years it seems that one of the most popular facets of the website has turned out to be the download of articles and e-books on the tithe. While the subject and discussion of tithing was never intended to be the principle focus of that site, it clearly showed itself to be an important issue to many people and which indeed affects most church-attending (and even some non-church-attending) Christians today.

So, for the benefit of visitors who are looking specifically for resources on this subject, I decided to dedicate a separate website entirely for this purpose (an app for smart phones may follow soon as well). I hope this will aid visitors in their search of the truth concerning tithing. The articles, books, links, and audio downloads contained within this site are presented by various authors from many differing denominational backgrounds and Christian perspectives of doctrine. For this reason the viewer should expect the possibility of variance in details of opinions expressed. Though different authors may have slight differences of opinion on aspects of doctrine, it is important to note the consistent message present here, which is that monetary tithing is clearly NOT a New Covenant doctrine and has no place in the Church of Jesus Christ.

My sincerest thanks for visiting this page.  The page is now live on the Internet as of August 8th, 2012 and will be under construction for a few days.  I appreciate your patience.
